Jewish history tours

Walk the Jewish quarter.

The Jewish History of Seville route walks the city street by street — from Plaza de San Francisco into the heart of the old Jewish quarter, with stops other routes never reach.

Walking is the oldest way of reading: this route is read with your feet.

The stops

  1. Plaza de San Francisco

Where the Inquisition raised its gallows: one of the city's execution squares. The walk begins without detours.

  2. The wall of the Jewish quarter

On Fabiola street the wall that enclosed the aljama still shows: the boundary between two cities that were one.

  3. San Bartolomé

The other half of the quarter: the houses of the aljama, its trades and its languages.

  4. Santa María la Blanca

The only Seville synagogue with surviving remains, a church today.

  5. The necropolis

Beneath the Murillo Gardens lies the necropolis of the community, found during the works on Cano y Cueto street and largely unexcavated.

  6. Plaza de Santa Cruz

Where the main synagogue of the parish once stood: the heart of the quarter that keeps its name.

These are only the major stops: along the way, many more places and details are seen and told.

Frequently asked questions

Before you book

Where does the tour start and what do you see?

It sets out from Plaza de San Francisco and walks through the centre and the old Jewish quarter: the wall on Calle Fabiola, San Bartolomé, Santa María la Blanca, the necropolis beneath the Murillo Gardens and Plaza de Santa Cruz. Those six stops are only the landmarks; along the way many more places are seen and told.

In which languages and when?

In Spanish and English, Monday to Saturday; there are no tours on Sundays. The Jewish History route departs every hour from 10:00 to 17:00, and the one that includes Santa María la Blanca at 11:30 and 17:30.

How much does the tour cost?

€176.40 in total for a private 2-hour tour for your group of up to 7 people. If you include the visit to Santa María la Blanca, the former synagogue, add €2 per person.

Where is the meeting point?

The Jewish History route starts at the Mercury Fountain in Plaza de San Francisco. The route that includes Santa María la Blanca starts in Plaza Virgen de los Reyes, by the fountain.

Who leads the tour?

Official tourism guides from Altai Turismo, the platform run by the author of this project. The route rests on the same research of more than one hundred and fifty pages that underpins this museum, and what is told on the street comes from documents that can be cited.

How do I book?

On this very page, in the booking catalogue: choose your date and group size. You can also book on altaiturismo.com. To change or cancel a booking, contact customer service on WhatsApp (+34 624 766 244) or at info@altaiturismo.com.

Is this the same as visiting Casa Sefardí?

No. Casa Sefardí is an online museum, with no premises or opening hours. The tour is the only in-person part of the project: the city acts as the final room, and what you read here you walk there.

Can I come with a group or a school?

All tours are private, for groups of up to 7 people. For school visits or larger groups, please write first to info@altaiturismo.com.
