We are professional licensed guides and we run a private tour, so we have a position, and we say so: even so, we describe honestly who each format suits, including when a group tour suits you better than ours.
Free tour: how does it work?
- Who walks with you: other travellers you do not know; the group can be large.
- How you pay: there is no fixed price; at the end you tip the guide what you think is fair.
- Pace and route: a set route and timetable for the whole group.
- Questions: there is little time for each person.
- Our position: we do not run free tours; we explain why in the questions at the end.
Small-group tour: who is it for?
- Who walks with you: a small group of travellers you do not know.
- How you pay: a fixed price per person, booked in advance.
- Pace and route: a set itinerary and timetable.
- Questions: more room than on a free tour.
- Best for: solo travellers and couples who want a set price and a guaranteed place.
Private tour: who is it for?
- Who walks with you: only your group.
- How you pay: a single price for the whole group, not per person.
- Pace and route: your pace; you choose the departure time.
- Questions: as many as you like, about whatever interests your group.
- Best for: families, groups of friends and anyone who wants to go deeper into a particular subject.
Is a private tour worth it?
It depends above all on how many of you there are and what you want to get out of the walk. If you are travelling alone, a small-group tour is the sensible choice. With your family or a group of friends, a private tour has an advantage that is easy to overlook: the price is the same whether you are two or seven, the walk adapts to the group's pace, and nobody waits for strangers. It is also the format that leaves room for what really matters on a Jewish-history walk: the questions.
What does a Jewish-history tour cover that a general city tour doesn't?
General city tours usually pass through the Jewish quarter as one stop among many. A tour devoted to Jewish history makes it the whole walk: the Inquisition's square, the wall on Calle Fabiola, the three synagogues that became churches, the necropolis beneath the Murillo Gardens. Ours rests on more than one hundred and fifty pages of research and separates what the documents say from what legend added. The six stops are in the walking route, stop by stop.
In which languages?
Our tour runs in English or Spanish; there are no guides in Hebrew or German. If you need another language, check it before booking any tour.
Our private tour in figures

Frequently asked questions
Is the private tour priced per person?
No. It is a single price for the whole group of up to 7 people: it does not change whether you are two or seven.
Is a free tour really free?
It has no fixed price: at the end you tip the guide what you think is fair. Also keep in mind that free tours are a form of worker exploitation: would you work for hours for a tip? We and our professional licensed guides do not support that type of business.
Can I choose when the private tour starts?
Yes, within the timetable: the Jewish History route departs every hour from 10:00 to 17:00, Monday to Saturday; the version with Santa María la Blanca at 11:30 or 17:30.
Does the private tour follow a fixed route?
It has six main stops, from Plaza de San Francisco to Plaza de Santa Cruz, but they are only the landmarks: along the way many more places are seen and told, and since it is only your group there is time for your questions.
